The What’s Possible

Embarking on a new design + construct project can be overwhelming for a property owner. And agreeing to a proposal for a large-scale build or renovation is a major commitment, especially if the client is not entirely sure what they want to do with their property. Do they want to build up, do they want to build out, do they want to remodel, or tear down and build new?! This is when I suggest we conduct a feasibility study for the client. Simply put, a feasibility study is an evaluation and design plans of “the what’s possible.”

California Style Homes and Interior Design

With so many designs and concept ideas coming into the market, various traditional styles might lose their importance in terms of interior designs. But one theme that stands out is the California style homes and California interior design style. The concept takes into account interior designs that allow air in and lets people breath as if they are living in an open area.

The California interior décor is inspired by the lifestyle of the place that includes a variety of environments. The main elements taken into consideration include beach towns along the coast, dry desert themes, historical structure, and even Spanish architectural influence. The theme can also be customized as per the home varying climates of the place. The most modern designs include abundant elements such as electric touches with flares of cool, casual and comfortable assets. The sleekness of the theme also plays an important part in giving that spacious feeling.

The trademark of California interior themes is the consistent design elements. They make great use of subtle colors and this is reflected in living rooms, kitchen, bedrooms and even bathrooms. Also, greenery is incorporated to provide a natural feeling. Various indoor plants and green furnishings are used to match the contemporary décor. Various themes include ocean, desert, sky, water, beach, etc.

If you wish to make your house look alluring as well as spacious, the California theme for interiors is the best option you can get. Get in touch with a professional designer who can get the job done for you.

How Sausages Are Made

Otto von Bismarck is most often credited with saying, “if you like laws and sausages, you should never watch either one being made.” Although I think that I do not particularly want to see how sausages are made, I think it is extremely important that we all are aware of how laws are made. And that we have the opportunity to participate in how they are made is one of the benefits of this great democracy. With that said… the Santa Monica City Council will be considering proposed amendments to the ordinance for R1 neighborhood zoning at their October 22 meeting. If you have any interest in remodeling your home in Santa Monica in the near future, you made want to exercise your right to speak up.

These amendments, if passed, will affect homeowners in the R1 (the classification for a single unit residential dwelling) zoned districts within Santa Monica. The amendments seek to address some residents’ concerns that the character of these neighborhoods is changing with the increase in the “size and scale” of homes being built. These amendments are intended to encourage homeowners to renovate their existing home instead of building new.

Designing + Constructing Unique…Jack-O-Lanterns?

We strive to make every design meet our high standards. The planning stage is key, relying on drawings and years of experience to perfect the details. We know the gut job will be messy, but it comes with the territory. And of course, constructing comes with challenges so it must be done with the proper tools and resources.

If you haven’t already guessed, we are talking about carving pumpkins!

That wonderfully frightful time of year where one tries to outdo neighbors for the most creative jack-o-lantern on the block. Where paths are lit by bulbous creatures, showing off their inner glow and giving them their one shining moment. Our home’s front steps are filled with such creations of all shapes and sizes because this is my daughter’s favorite Halloween ritual.

My designer side gets into full competitive mode as my daughter and I scour the internet for inspirations and are awed by jack-o-lanterns from the sweet and whimsical to the downright scary. I wonder how many hours were needed to construct some of these earthy masterpieces. How many hours will it take me? Allow us to share the unique jack-o-lanterns that inspired us the most.
